BIO-PLATFORM FOR THE SUSTAINABLE
PRODUCTION OF CYANOBACTERIAL-BASED COLOURS AND FINEÂ CHEMICALS
Hot springs represent the new frontier of biotechnological microorganisms
to produce metabolic fractions with high commercial potential. Among the
different microorganisms, cyanobacteria and microalgae are the sources of several compounds, such as well-known fine chemicals and phycobiliproteins, metabolites of high significant economic value. They are a group of brilliantly colored, water-soluble proteins, exploited for the production of nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.Â
This project aims to create an interdisciplinary partnership between UK and three Colombian institutions for the production of cyanobacterial-basedcolour and fine chemicals.
